Our Christmas was great!! This year Keith was NOT on call like the past years or deployed either. He had 4 days off and it was really low key like we planned to. Eric came over on Christmas day for dinner and at evening guess what we did! Rock Baaand! Exactly, we really like that lately.
Christmas brings me lots of memories from back home in Romania. Christmas Eve has always been a magic day for us. My dad would set up the tree, and my sisters and I would decorate it. And my mom, ahhh my mom.............She would cook all day long (with the help of my dad). They would go visit my grandparents in the country and they would come back with fresh pork. Most Orthodox people in Romania eat pork for Christmas. Sarmale, cârnați, tobă, piftie and friptură are just few. Oh, and I forgot cozonac.
If I can't smell something that reminds me of home my Christmas won't be the same. So here's my cozonac, a sweet bread made with eggs, milk, flour, yeast and a chocolate walnuts filling. It takes pretty much the whole day to make it , but to me it became a tradition and the smell, hmmmmmm. So, if you'll ever have me over for Christmas I might have to bake some cozonac:)
Before
....and after. The tradition is that you can't eat it on Christmas Eve, you would have to wait until Christmas day.But my mom would always make a small round one for us to cut and eat it warm.
On Christmas Eve, after we came back home from Nashville, we put her to bed, cracked opened a bottle of wine and started to build her toys.
On Christmas Eve before we met Eric fro his Birthday dinner, we went to Opryland Hotel and met some of our friends.
